A few weeks ago my friends celebrated their engagement at a private party in one of the most beautiful patios in Salt Lake City, Caffe Molise. Tucked between buildings in the center of downtown, the patio is quiet enough to feel intimate but open enough to let sounds of the city seep in to remind you that you’re still downtown.
Caffe Molise has long been known for their superb Italian food; personally I’m a huge fan of their brunch (although I’ve yet to dedicate a post to them here on my blog). I was shocked to learn that they not only host private parties, but that their catering food is just as excellent as their single-course dishes.
Throughout the party, servers walked around with smoked salmon hors d’oeuvres while keeping our wine glasses full. Dinner was an impressive array of Italian favorites served buffet-style :: lasagna, Polpette di melanzana (eggplant “meatballs” in a shallot and tomato cream sauce topped with asparagus, served on polenta), Penne di Caprino (goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes and penne pasta in a garlic sauce), Pollo Marsala (sauteed chicken with mushrooms in a marsala cream sauce with spinach), mashed potatoes, salad, fresh vegetables and more.
As if we hadn’t stuffed ourselves full on rich Italian food (I’ve got to remember to order the Polpette di melanzana next time), slices of chocolate cake were brought out afterward, followed by a champagne toast. I have a not-so-slight obsession with chocolate cake and for years Caffe Molise has held my vote for the best in the city. It did not disappoint.
If you are looking to host a private event, especially on a patio that feels as comfortably intimate as a friend’s backyard, I highly suggest Caffe Molise. Not only is the setting beautiful, the service and food is outstanding.
Thank you Dani and Matt for hosting such a wonderful evening and congratulations on your engagement!
