I am convinced that there is nothing better than a cool glass of crisp wine while outside on a hot day. It is the ultimate mode of relaxation. The weather was amazing all week in San Francisco and on Friday it turned even more unusually warm.
To take advantage of the beautiful day, we went to the newly opened neighborhood cheese shop, Mission Cheese. Intended to be just that — a cheese shop — where customers could try their cheese with a glass of wine before buying a larger amount, the shop has turned out to be more of a wine and cheese bar.
There are a variety of cheese flights and a small availability of food, which are not surprisingly cheese related, like grilled cheese sandwiches and mac and cheese, plus a delicate wine list. We picked a glass of “Bright White” and a rose and let the cheese monger choose three cheeses for us.
The cheese was delicious and the wine was even better. I was surprised to discover the refreshingly light–and not overly sweet–wine was a dry Riesling. I always thought Rieslings were a sugary, almost dessert wine. I am now hooked to the dry variety and am searching for one identical to my Bright White!
Mission Cheese was such a fun place to hang out. It reminded me of a coffee shop, only with better treats. It is definitely on my list of San Francisco favorites; I can’t wait to go back!
